The Broken Cross
The film tells the tragic story of Khaled Al-Asaad, a renowned Syrian archaeologist. As the former head of antiquities at the ancient city of Palmyra, he devoted his life to protecting this 2,000-year-old UNESCO World Heritage site. When ISIS occupied Palmyra, he refused to flee and swore never to reveal the hiding places of the precious artifacts. Ultimately, he was brutally executed by the extremist group, giving his life to defend the treasures of human civilization.
A war waged against memory itself — and one guardian who would not surrender the past.
